Frances May BA Hons • PGATC Painter • designer stylist • teacher
I have followed an artistic path my entire life so it was natural for me to become an artist and teacher after studying Fine Art at university.
Artwork
My work always involves paint, whether it’s on a canvas, wood, a wall, furniture or textiles. I love variety so never pigeon-hole myself in terms of media or subject type. The juxtaposition of abstraction and reality interests me, and this is often reflected in my work. My art has been exhibited at:
Battersea Affordable Art Fair The London Print Show The Watercolour Society The Ikon Nicholas Bowlby Gallery Cranbrook Art Show South East Open Studios The Wealden Times Fair
Teaching
I started teaching secondary school art in my twenties, and after a break to have children I continued to progress to become Head of Art for a secondary school in Royal Tunbridge Wells. This enabled me to cover a variety of Artistic disciplines with my exam groups; ranging from design, film, photography, textiles, painting, ceramics and sculpture. Teaching and encouraging others to get the most out of art is a privilege and a joy.
I left secondary school teaching a few years ago to concentrate on my own artistic development, but still like to offer tuition from my studio.
Home life
I have 4 grown up children who I love to spend time with as well as socialising with friends. I love gardening, travelling, walking, playing tennis and swimming in my free time!
